§ 15-1. Challenges.

  • (a)

    Each candidate shall be allowed to appoint one (1) challenger for each polling place in all city elections. The appointment shall be in writing, addressed to the city clerk and delivered no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Friday preceding a primary or general election. All challengers must be both residents of the city and registered voters as determined by the rolls of the county on the last day for registration prior to the election.

    (b)

    The city clerks shall establish an identification card containing a photo of each challenger which shall be provided without cost to a duly appointed challenger.

    (c)

    Only those challengers wearing the official identification card shall be allowed inside a polling place for the purpose of challenging, and no more than one (1) challenger per candidate may be in any polling place at any time during voting hours. One (1) challenger, however, may visit any number of polling places during election hours.

    (d)

    The grounds for challenging an elector, the proceedings on challenge and the rules shall be as set forth in Arizona Revised Statutes sections 16-591 to 16-593 inclusive.
